Madden NFL 13 uses a physics engine that delivers more realistic and dynamic collisions between players compared to the previous installment in the series. The game also adds a completely new career mode, entitled "Connected Careers". This mode provides the same functionality whether the player is in an offline or online career, with the added ability to have up to 32 people in the same league in the online version. "Connected Careers" allows control of either a player or a coach, whether that be an existing player or coach, a legend, or a created character. It also has virtual news and twitter feeds, giving feedback on what's going on in the league. The career mode has much more depth than the previous online franchise mode, a new XP system which rewards players' accomplishments and lets them upgrade their characters in a RPG-like fashion, and a new legacy score system to compare the character against all-time greats.
